Under Environmental Protection Act Government of the Republic of Slovenia adopted eight environmental taxes. All of them are administered by Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia. Above mentioned taxes are taxes on:

  • the pollution of air with carbon dioxide emissions (CO2 tax),
  • the use of lubricating oils and fluids,
  • landfilling with scrap pneumatic tires,
  • landfilling with scrap packaging,
  • landfilling with waste electrical and electronic equipment,
  • environmental pollution due to the use of volatile organic compounds,
  • environmental pollution caused by waste water discharge,
  • environmental pollution caused by waste disposal.

Environmental taxes payers are persons (legal and natural), established in the Republic of Slovenia (foreign entities are not tax payers). Tax payers must register their activities for each environmental tax, lodge tax returns and pay the tax.

Some decrees on environmental taxes are adopted mainly to collect data on pollutants, materials and quantities of materials that pollutes environment or air.
