Foreign natural persons who have no permanent or temporary residence in Slovenia and earn taxable income or own taxable movable or immovable property in its territory must submit an application for entry into the tax register to a financial office.
What is the procedure for obtaining a tax identification number?
You must complete a DR-02 form, along with the instructions available on the website (available in Slovenian, Italian, Hungarian, English and German languages; the form can also be obtained at the finance office) and submit it to any finance office other than the General Financial Office or the Special Financial Office. The procedure may be carried out in three ways:
- personal submission of the application for entry in the tax register at the finance office; In addition to the DR-02 form, you must have with you an identification document (identity card or passport) and the documents containing the information to be entered in the tax register (or altered and updated);
- through an authorised person. In this case, the authorised person must bring along the DR-02 form, completed with your information, a power of attorney and a copy of your identification document and the documents containing the information to be entered in the tax register (or altered and updated);
- by mail. In addition to the DR-02 form, you must attach a copy of the identification document and the documents containing the information to be entered in the tax register (or altered and updated).
You will receive a certificate of the assigned tax identification number immediately or by post within a few days.
Obligation to notify changes
In case of changing data or additional new data (eg. new address, bank account) persons shall report to the tax authority any change of data from the application within eight days after the occurrence of changes. Changes of data or additional information can be communicated on the DR-02 form (natural person), DR-03 form (natural person with an activiy), DR-04 form (legal entity) or on any other document with all information contained in the prescribed form.
